Disguise Plugin

One of the recent contributors asked about this.  The rank Information page notes that the Warrior/Noble/Legend paid ranks have access to disguises, one of their main perks, but the plugin is currently disabled.

Since the server is running smooth again, population and interest are ramping back up, and cosmetic perks are allowed under the EULA, could this be re-enabled for contributors / subscribers / whomever else is meant to have access?  Or is this a problem between the plugin and our current build of Spigot?

I'm afraid the problem is with the plugin, currently. As people should be aware of, we are running the latest spigot builds, which include a sort of hack that incoporates both the 1.7 and the 1.8 network protocols, meaning that despite the server being on 1.7, 1.8 clients can connect. This is why things like enchanting, something that has entirely changed in 1.8, do not always function as expected.

This protocol hack also makes the basis of the disguise plugin flawed. Disguises work off a API library known as ProtocolLib; note the use of protocol in there. This is because it kind of messes with the server protocol to send a different message back to the players, in this case displaying a different entity, e.g. a horse instead of the player model, or another player's skin. The cross version protocol change means this kinda breaks horribly and crashes the server. I'm looking in to seeing if there is a temporary solution, which I think there may well be, but hang tight till then peeps, doing our best :) .

Thanks for the explanation.

And in light of that info, I definitely vote stability over the fun of being disguised.  I have been enjoying the incredible stability of the server these last several days. 99.95% uptime is something to be quite proud of.  I will speak on behalf of the many, many people who've been commenting on the "fixedness" of the server and say:
Thank You.

Now, with that out of the way, I really, really, really, really want to be disguised as a squid sometime, so please continue that search for a solution.

JJ

Why thank you. The server is only down for a minute a day now, when it does a auto restart at 7am GMT every morning, plus the occasional restart by a staff member to correct an issue or perform maintenance (uncommon in itself), so huzzah and hooray.
