Typo *What are YOUR new map resolutions. Whoops!
Hey y'all,
At least in the US it's very common to pledge to make changes at the beginning of the year regardless of how well they are kept…
What are your goals for the new map? What are you going to keep the same and what do you hope to mix up?
I know I'm going to try and encorporate more depth into my building and designs. I've been learning new uses for slabs, stairs, and trapdoors from BDoubleO's youtube channel (I may as well link it), so I can make my buildings look less flat.
I'm def going to settle on a mountain again. I can't bring myself to settle anywhere else, but I'd like to settle in a mountain range or a group of hills this time. Last time, I was on one singular cresent-shaped mountain and the surrounding area. (Although, my mountain had a lot more space to grow things than a range would have).
What about you guys? Is anyone going to try out some new 1.11 blocks in their build? The new nether blocks look super cool 😀

Personally i am also going to build on a mountain and hopefully near some other active wabbits. Also I've already got a good idea of what my new base will be; a huge tower looking a bit lord of the rings-esque.Completly different from my current base (an underground mine thing). I aim to get to the end asap an loot an end city or two. This map I am going to try to make a few more farms and actually have a decent source of food beside charity and rotten flesh. And more importantly make less typos in chat!

On the past maps I was trying to find a playstyle that would suit me, but failed, sadly. First I was playing completely alone, and got bored of it. Then I tried to team up, but sadly other team members tend to get on much less often, and I was left alone to most of the time, having doubts whether to build anything or wait for others. Also, I found that it is hard to combine everyone's wishes in one base unless you make a good plan beforehand, which we did not, and when you have mismatching build styles. Perhaps our team could not really become a team, but rather were players who trusted each other.
Upon consideration, I decided that if I will play on the next map, then I will make my resource base alone, and when have things set up, attempt to participate in various projects with other players elsewhere.

I love hearing what you all are planning.
@Chumbleweasel I gotta love those mountain builds too. You'll have to invite me over once you get your base up, I'd love to see the Lord of the Rings theme!
@dlbuunk That's pretty great, I really enjoy the road network we lived near. If you need help let me know.
@Sir_Mai Congrats on the promotion!
@CrimsonWizard That sounds like a good compromise. Especially as we get some roads and hotels and stuff set up. I always enjoy when people build really amazing team builds on road or something so you can "pilgramage" out there.
What biomes do you guys want to live in? (Unless you already said?)

Well, with all the changes that have been announced some of my plans have been blown up. I guess I'll mainly collect resources for myself and check out the Atlantis area. More than likely that's where I'll live since I'm such an ocean guy. I haven't decided if I'm going to make a sea temple farm this time around since there isn't going to be a shopping district to sell in and I don't care for announcing regularly that I have sea lanterns for sale. For the most part I guess I'm going to play it by ear as far as what I'm going to do. It's hard to really plan out anything considering all the changes.

It is not confirmed if we will or will not bring back a staff managed shopping district. For those that have not been around long enough to remember, there were always public trading places around the map created by players to sell their wares. The earliest one I can remember is lilac town which was made but a group of players. Since then we have seen many evolution's over the last few maps while we tried to manage the rampant theft and bickering among players until we eventually took it completely over.
Now that moderating is our main focus and less time should be needed fixing grief, we feel it is time to try to hand it back over to the players. Our current one has also many issues to fix and I think a lot of you can agree that it was far from perfect. What we can learn from observing what the players actually want to be able to do will be far more valuable than limiting your creative potential by forcing you to build in tiny staff managed boxes.

A little bit of nostalgie, a 2014th temp map, completely unprotected and player-maintained shopping district: 🙂
I recall it was griefed and robbed almost every day though.

I think a good idea for the new map could be a "nehther hub",in other words a room or collection of tunnels with different nether prtals all leading to different places. It would make traveling to different places easier, partcularly for those with only one home. For example if there was to be a community managed shopping district with no warp then a quick and easy way to get there through the nether would be very helpful.Although its not exactly an early game project it would be very helpful one people have started building community stuff such as xp grinders or farms.
Let me know what you think about this!

We did this on current map for our neighbourhood, and later got more hubs connected with roads and even 2000 blocks long railroad (through neither!) leading to another town on another side of the world.
This is a good idea, and may be fun to build, but two tips need to be kept in mind. You may already know this, but I think I'd mention just in case.
1. One has to be ready to explain how to manually unlink portals to the new players, if theirs got connected to someone elses. This will occur regularly, and in most cases may be solved, although sometimes will require moving them around a little bit. Our record was having distinct portals as close as 60 blocks in overworld (2 or 3 blocks in nether).
2. One has to respect player's wish to keep their portal private. It is hard to tell how that will work on the new map, with new land claim rules. On this map we just put locked doors or fence gates at the portal. On the other hand, there is a warning that some people ignore: do not completely block the portal with locked blocks, or if someone spawns in it they would not be able to go back (you have to exit portal and enter it again) and get stuck.

Yeah, but this time you have land claim and shoo chests.

This new world is mostly very beautiful, although pretty weird at places. But it also has number of issues.
Two most unexpected ones I found personally:
1) Since all trees are custom, sometimes you cannot guess what kind of leaves they have. I saw jungle trunks with common oak leaves, and giant acacia trees with dark oak leaves. You really cannot tell before you use shears on them and check what you got. This is like we need to learn new rules (remember which trees to harvest in order to get particular saplings).
2) Biome looks not always match real biome type. All those crazy lava biomes could be actually Plains or Savannas, which causes respected mobs spawn there. This somewhat breaks immersion, when you see chickens and cows wander around volcanic terrain.
More importanly, if you are looking for very particular type of mobs, like cats and dogs, you may be very much surprized. I was in what looked like an oak forest, when I saw an ocelot... F3 debug info displayed that that was indeed Jungle, just with custom oak trees.

My new map resolution is definitely going to include loads of exploration now! I'm very glad that the interesting things are protected and can't be destroyed. I ran into some sort of mythical obsidian thing (sort of like an oasis) the other day and that was pretty fun.
