In the last few days we have finally managed to resolve the tps and lag issues on the server.  For more information about that please read the following post.

https://mc.wabbitface.com/community/forum/news-announcements/the-sad-fate-of-elytra-launchers/#p18737

While this has resolved a lot, we still have players struggling in the shopping area.  This is partly due to over 700 shop chests and over 150 individual land claims.

The main issue is some players have been building and adding things to the area with no consideration of the impact to the area or the players that have to use it.  We have had to remove cow/chicken farms, dark room grinders and red stone pumpkin/watermellon/sugarcane farms to name just a few.  With all the new issues that arise weekly, we can not continue to add new rules and police them in an open environment such as it is.  For this reason we will be moving the shopping area to an off world location similar to the last map so that we can control the environment and conditions.

This does not mean we want to put you in little pre-made boxes . . . . well maybe . . . . but we would like your help to pick out and help build the cage :p

Certain conditions are going to be non negotiable to a certain degree and are for the health of the server (and sanity of the staff).

  • size/height/depth of plot will be pre-determined
  • no animal/mob spawning (no more getting ganked in the shopping area)
  • 8 shop chests
  • 90 - 100 max plots
  • No switching plots - plots will be auto assigned
  • no beacons - a speed buff will be in effect everywhere
  • must have a forum account - to apply for a plot

Eventually we will get a few people from the server to help us build it, or pieces of it but first we would like to hear suggestions about themes and ideas for the new area/s.  We have spit balled a few ideas already.  To prevent the current issue we currently have with players wanting to be at the front for the first positions we are really looking for designs that fix this issue so that all shops have equal viewing and access.

We look forward to seeing your ideas, suggestions and questions.

Q : What will happen to the current shop chests?
A : Once the new area is up and running we will remove the plugin from the main server and the chests will revert to normal chests.  Your items will be safe as long as it is on a claim.

Q : What will happen to the builds?
A : While we may clean up some of the area over time we do not plan to remove it.  Some of the stuff players have done have been quite impressive and we would like to protect it.

Tis a shame but an understandable thing that needs to happen.

I personally see the easiest thing to do for the off world shopping district is to literally build a mall, this can then have a hard limit already set as to number of shops/size of buildings etc with the customization being inside the shops itself.

Looks like i will need to keep an eye out so i can apply asap 😀 but i look forward to seeing everyone's suggestions also.

I agree this area should be enclosed, as such people will be limited to the area they can move about in this new world, restricting lag issues and glitches. A mall idea is nice and allowing two floors, each with 50 stores each would make a nice design, however, i would also understand that some people, including myself, would like to see the organic structure of the current shops carried over, maybe this mall should be modern with heavy amounts of greenery around and in it. Just a suggestion.

Many thanks,

I respectfully disagree in part with the idea of a mall as I think it would limit peoples imagination. Also because it would probably have a roof and be enclosed I feel that it would be even harder to find a shop selling what you want. Many shops are built in theme with what they sell however if you cant see the majority of the shop from a distance because its in a mall with only one side visible it may be harder to gauge what shops are selling what. Of course this would solve the problem of some shops being easier to access and being unequal viewing.

I have no solution to the obscene difficulty in finding what you want, that I experienced greatly last map, and to a lesser extent this map. Other than that the prospective mall could be split into sections each of which would specialise in different types of shop eg. one area could be for enchanted book shops, another for shops selling building blocks, one for miscellaneous stuff etc. etc.

I remember that the old shop system was removed for this map to help ease the load on staff and for it to be more community led. Following this maybe some trusted community members/those who have applied for guide could have the opportunity to help manage and run the shopping district on a day to day basis to leave staff open to help where it is need most rather than dealing with shops.

I concur with Chumbleweasel.

I would also like to stress the importance of easily finding shops, a rectangular design with named streets and logically numbered shops would go a long way.

I also disagree with the idea of a mall. As we've seen from the current "mall", designs like these can be quite limiting creatively and can also create a maze that you end up getting lost in. I'm not sure if there is a way to create equal accessibility to all stores but maybe having a central spawn area that's in the middle will create a more even view point and accessibility to all stores.

I have had this idea floating in my head for a while on how to make the shopping area more organize and aesthetically pleasing. I've noticed with the current shops, sometimes plots that are in the central area are left unfinished, half-built or lack any desire for creativity and become an eyesore. I was thinking of having the central spawn area, fountain, map board, rules board etc be surrounded with premade buildings where people can be assigned a space within these buildings and just set up shop and decorate internally. This creates a cohesive design in the central area and gives spaces for people who may not want to build a whole shop or cannot. Then the outer edges will have empty plots where people who wish to build a whole building or shop can do if they wish to.

My idea for design would be an urban street feel, European-esque buildings with shops on the ground floor and "residential" on top (could be 2nd floor of shop or just for aesthetics) in a grid pattern for ease of access and wayfinding.

It will certainly not be a mall.  As suggested above it is too restricting to player creativity.

The last map we had a central spawn and from there you could warp out to three other locations.

The new one can be broken down similar so there could be several themed area for ease of distinction.  We will probably have at least the warp high up so players can view from above to get an idea of the area.

I am afraid this is not an option either.  Only yesterday I hard to ask someone not to recruit people to the current mall.  Their idea was to claim and allow people to build and remove their stuff if they became inactive.  This could only lead to upset players and disagreements which is why we will be leaving it to staff to take the brunt of this.  Unlike the last map, there is much less other stuff to do now anyway.

What we want is something like this where we have a central area for warps, information etc and other area that can be developed by players into themed areas.

Some players have expressed an interest in an under water area so perhaps elements may be a good start

If i remember correctly from the last map, If multiple people shared a plot couldn't everyone open the chests even if a different player made the shop sign. If this feature does come back into play will it be a limit of 8 chests per plot or will there be an 8 chest per person rule. Anyway i look forward to seeing the new (old) shopping district. 🙂

People were able to add on an addition chest and trust someone to that chest.  As we are not using that system it is something we will have to test.

I believe 8 chests is enough for anyone.  While it may limit clay and wool shops I feel this will allow other players to fill in gaps in inventory so one person can not monopolize the market.

The different themed areas will be interesting. Are you thinking of having shops at the Central spawn too or only in the themed areas? Will there be a warp or transportation system to get to the different areas or will it be just a system of pathways?

I agree with dlbuunk in that I'd like to see a north, south, east, west layout where you can find shops easily and return to them easily.  On the last map the shopping district was so spread out and so meandering that I had a hard time finding shops, even ones that I had been to before.

I also like the idea of multiple 'hubs'.  Most shop owners like to be close to the center/spawn.  If there are multiple hubs more people can be close to the center of a hub.  Again I like the NSEW layout.  I can tell someone that is looking for my shop to go to north shopping district and head east.  My shop is the 5th one on the left.  Also, I'd like to see wider paths than what we have in the current shopping district. That way you can actually see the shops and not just the section of wall you are next to.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents for now.

I have a suggestion for the structure of the shops, they should all be modernized. Iron doors and walls, but every building with different coloured glass windows out front to avoid confusion... Some buildings should be taller than others so some people can team up with others and their friend having the upstairs shop. the storage room in the basement should be plentiful.

I'm honestly really excited for this change 😀

I believe the idea is for the players to be able to build their own hand-made shops in the preset plots rather than premade buildings that would be assigned.

It's been Mai pleasure ;)

I personally like the idea of having the new shopping district. I also agree with Chumbleweasel that having a mall would limit players creativity and look too boring. I think it would be best if there were set-up plots of land that people then built what they want on, sticking to the theme. However, I think that before a shop actually goes open, staff must approve it. If it is ugly, or is too laggy, staff can tell them to build a different design and remove it. These are, of course, my opinions, and I know not everyone will agree with them, but please don't argue too much about this.

We have the spawn area completed and working on the plots but with Easter around the corner we are a little busy with RL work but I am hopeful we can still work on it throughout

Sounds like good plans for the new district. I'd like what we had last map where there was a nice forum post to let you know whose shop was what number and what they planned on selling. It helped you find what you want to buy. Like Example: I'm looking for glass. Rather than having to go through the entire district checking each shop I go to the website and in the forum is a post and I look up glass with CTRL+F and can see that say Pegasusdream in shop number 12 is selling glass and so is SR_Mai in shop number 70. Then I go to the shopping area and look up plot 12 or 70 (which last map were numbered with some sort of floating text code) and buy my glass. It was a real good system. It also allowed us to more easily report if a shop remained out of stock for longer than a month, makes it easier for you staff guys to deal with any shop reports I think.

The height width and length restriction being the same for all I think is a good thing because there are/were some ridiculously big builds in the shopping district. Creativity is all good and well but why do you need a shop till sky limit if you only sell 8 things like everyone else? Or take up what amounts to 4-6 plots that other people could be using.

I don't think we need more than 100 plots not all members want to have a shop and some close their shop eventually or become inactive allowing for new shops to set up.

The no beacon is okay since we're using the buff feature from previous shopping area. No animals/mobs I am glad for. Someone had a wither pet and while I got 32 gigs to dedicate to my beast of a pc and the full 8gig dedicated to mc it still led to lag. I don't think having a cat or dog in your shop would lead to problems but if staff says no I'm okay with it.

I'd like to know though: Do you plan to keep the old shops or can we remove them if we want to? I would like to take it down and either rebuild it smaller in the new district or rebuild it at my home claim as a memorial to what I made.

When life gives you lemons, accept its misguided charity and incorporate it in your scheme for world domination~Anonymous

This will all be in, or so goes the plan. We would allow cats/dogs etc to some extent, but due to the way the district is being implemented this probably won't work.

The plots are the same size I think, though I could be wrong, I can't quite remember the size I set last time. It's about 17x17 and a bit more than that vertically.

The page with the shops list will also be up and running again, hopefully with another useful feature (don't hold me to that, depends on if I have time to make it).

Finally, the actual buildings in the current place will not be affected, we will simply be turning the chests back into normal chests (they will no longer function as shops), so you are free to tear it down and rebuild once approved in the new area!

What can the harvest hope for, if not for the care of the Reaper Man?
